Pesticides in food. The Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list
/The Environmental Working Group (EWG) in the USA have produced a list of fruit and vegetables which contain the most pesticides and those which have less and are therefore safer to eat.
This list is easily available from the EWG website. I keep a copy in my wallet.
If you can, buy organic. The cost of doing this is about an extra 30%.
The next best thing is to buy the fruit and veggies on the dirty dozen list from an organic grocer and buy the rest from your usual store.
The Dirty Dozen are:
Strawberries
Spinach
Nectarines
Apples
Grapes
Peaches
Cherries
Peas
Tomatoes
Celery
Potatoes
Capsicums
If going organic is not an option for you, another option is to soak your fruit and veggies in water with 1% bicarbonate of soda added for 12 minutes.
